Efficient Kernel Density Estimation of Shape and Intensity Priors for Level Set Segmentation

چکیده
We propose a nonlinear statistical shape model for level set segmentation which can be efficiently implemented. Given a set of training shapes, we perform a kernel density estimation in the low dimensional subspace spanned by the training shapes. In this way, we are able to combine an accurate model of the statistical shape distribution with efficient optimization in a finite-dimensional subspace. In a Bayesian inference framework, we integrate the nonlinear shape model with a nonparametric intensity model and a set of pose parameters which are estimated in a more direct data-driven manner than in previously proposed level set methods. Quantitative results show superior performance (regarding runtime and segmentation accuracy) of the proposed nonparametric shape prior over existing approaches.

Level Set with Embedded Conditional Random Fields and Shape Priors for Segmentation of Overlapping Objects
Traditional methods for segmenting touching or overlapping objects may lead to the loss of accurate shape information which is a key descriptor in many image analysis applications. While experimental results have shown the effectiveness of using statistical shape priors to overcome such difficulties in a level set based variational framework, problems in estimation of parameters that balance ev...
متن کاملKernel Density Estimation and Intrinsic Alignment for Knowledge-Driven Segmentation: Teaching Level Sets to Walk
We address the problem of image segmentation with statistical shape priors in the context of the level set framework. Our paper makes two contributions: Firstly, we propose to generate invariance of the shape prior to certain transformations by intrinsic registration of the evolving level set function. In contrast to existing approaches to invariance in the level set framework, this closed-form...
متن کاملMulti-object segmentation using coupled nonparametric shape and relative pose priors
We present a new method for multi-object segmentation in a maximum a posteriori estimation framework. Our method is motivated by the observation that neighboring or coupling objects in images generate configurations and co-dependencies which could potentially aid in segmentation if properly exploited. Our approach employs coupled shape and inter-shape pose priors that are computed using trainin...

We present a new active contour-based, statistical method for simultaneous volumetric segmentation of multiple subcortical structures in the brain. Neighboring anatomical structures in the human brain exhibit co-dependencies which can aid in segmentation, if properly analyzed and modeled. Motivated by this observation, we formulate the segmentation problem as a maximum a posteriori estimation p...
متن کاملCombining learning-based intensity distributions with nonparametric shape priors for image segmentation
Integration of shape prior information into level set formulations has led to great improvements in image segmentation in the presence of missing information, occlusion, and noise. However, most shape-based segmentation techniques incorporate image intensity through simplistic data terms. A common underlying assumption of such data terms is that the foreground and the background regions in the ...
